Bar for the Frappant

The Frappant is a former shopping mall in Hamburg. Currently 130 artists are using
the building, which had been abandonned for years, as work-
shops and exhibition space. Facing the street, the Blinzelbar
is the interface where the building and especially the events inside of it are communicated to the exterior in the most direct way.
Its walls and floors are taken over by a mosaic pattern whose trompe l'oeil effect challenges viewing habits, blurring the frontiers of the space. Tables
and chairs made of white, rectangular boards act as counterparts. They have been constructed from built-in closets found on the premises – a transformation of utility value following asthetical rules.
